I have a twin kohler engine, model cv18s in a 1996 Toro wheelhorse model 72104 the machine has 1200 hrs on the clock, serial 6922659. starts to smoke a lot on idle and just over idle, once on full sthrottle doesnt seem to smoke much but uses some oil. would it maybe help to rering the engine and what would be a estamated cost be for the parts and gaskets here in Australia . Kind regards ; **** Pemen.

I do not know about parts on your side of the world. If you would have to ship them or if their is a supply there. First things first, Oil burning can be caused by too much oil in the crank case. Wrong type of oil and worn internal parts. Oil burning can come from the valve guides, poor crank case ventilation and the piston wall clearance / ring gap. If this was mine I would start with a heavier weight oil. Check the air filter and the filter housing to manifold making sure there is a good draw over the filter, this vacuum (not really a vacuum but for the idea) across the filter is a part of the crank case vent. system if to much, the engine can pull oil out of the crank case and run it through the combustion ie burning oil. This type of oil burning will come through the intake valve guides and can be found inside the intake manifold below the carb. If to little a pull across the filter your engine will not have a proper vent and can pump excess oil through the rings. I have an Em, to attend to I will get back to this answer asap. sorry.
